Some residents were unhappy with the results. They don't see it as a savings because property values have increased, meaning their tax bills will be higher despite the lower tax rate.
"Everything is skyrocketing. My homeowners' insurance has more than doubled," Pompano Beach resident Denise Goinski said at the public budget meeting at Pompano Beach City Hall.
While saying he is sympathetic to residents' concerns, Mayor John Rayson said he thinks commissioners listened and have done their best to save them money.
Additionally, Hargett said the city plans to hire 20 full-time employees for the building and public works departments, clerk's office, and as paramedics.
