Swiss Reinsurance Co., the world's second-largest reinsurer, said Friday that its combined losses from weather catastrophes have so far this year reached $2.3 billion (euro1.9 billion).

The company, which earlier this week warned that it would fail to reach its profitability target for 2005, had previously indicated losses exceeding $2 billion.

In a further disclosure on its Web site Friday, the company said losses totaling another 450 million Swiss francs (US$348 million; euro289 million) were linked to other weather events, such as floods earlier this year in California, Central and Eastern Europe and the Indian city of Bombay.
