The U.S. Treasury accepted the $100 bid of the Rock Hill Library Commission to buy the local post office building, according to The Evening Herald this week in 1930.
The commission planned to move the building to property it owned at Oakland Avenue and St. Johns Court, chairman J.W. O'Neal said. The federal government planned to build a new post office and court.
• A fire of unknown origin destroyed the Chester home of John G. Colvin Jr. No one was injured. Colvin had $2,800 insurance on the home and contents.
• Edward Hartness, about 32, severed his arm between the wrist and elbow when he got caught in a corn shredder at the Beth-Shiloh home of E.M. Williams.
• First Presbyterian Church pastor W.W. Harrison preached the community Thanksgiving service at Trinity Methodist Church in York. An offering was collected for orphanages in the state.
• C.D. Carter scored two touchdowns as the Lancaster County All-Stars beat the York County All-Stars 13-0 before 1,500 chilly fans at Lancaster Stadium in the annual Jaycee Charity Bowl.
• The S.C. Tax Commission denied permits to James Leverett and Charles S. Wilson, who wanted to sell beer and wine at businesses near Bowling Green on U.S. 321.
• Mrs. W.M. Hollis of Ogden, a member of Antioch Methodist Church, was the newspaper's cook of the week. One of her favorite recipes was a Japanese fruit cake.
