In South Florida, we have a cost-of-living crisis driven by skyrocketing property taxes and insurance premiums. If we want to remain an economically attractive place to live and work, we need a complete solution that addresses the concerns of both homeowners and businesses. Instead our civic administrators are defending their turf, spending as much as they can while they can. When appraisals and revenues go up, our government can be counted on to spend all the money.

Third, commercial property owners also need relief in the form of caps on increases in appraisals and property taxes. It is unreasonable to impose 20 percent to 40 percent increases in tax assessments on local businesses.

If action is not taken, there will continue to be long-term negative consequences to our economy. Who will show some leadership in this time of crisis?
